Bicester AC’s summer season opened with the first round of their YDL (lower age) Midlands North East Division 2A match which was held at Drayton on Saturday 25th April.  Blowing off the cobwebs of the long winter, there were several outstanding performances throughout the day culminating in a fine team victory against 7 other competing clubs.  This included some strong performances amongst the boys and throwing events in particular.

Oscar Honour produced some excellent efforts in the under 15 boy’s events returning a fine personal best in winning the discus (22.76m) as well as clocking 13.5 seconds for 2nd in the 100 metres.  Tom Couzens has obviously wintered well and kicked off his summer season with wins in the under 15 boy’s high jump (1.49m) and 80 metres hurdles in a new personal best time of 14.2secs as well as a fine 2nd in the 800 metres (2mins 26.3s).  William Sims has made giant strides in the throwing events in the last 12 months and he had a highly successful day winning the under boy’s javelin with a new personal best throw of 27.23m and the B string discus (18.49m) as well placing 4th in the B 300 metres.  Max Nicolle has also come out of the winter season well finishing 3rd in the 1500 metres with a promising 5mins 4secs, in his first effort for the club, as well as winning the B high jump (1.30m).

Bicester AC enjoyed a highly successful day in the shot put with newcomer Georgia Sanderson claiming victory in a highly competitive under 15 event with a putt of 7.87m  She was supported by Molly Acton, who won the B event (5.83m) in between finishing 4th in the 800 metres (2mins 43.3s) and  5th in the 300m (47.4s).  Amber Parker was also a winner in the shot, this time in the under 13 girl’s event, with a new personal best of 6.26m.

Millie Couzens started the summer with a new club record clocking of 4mins 10secs in finishing 2nd in the under 13 girl’s 1200 metres.  Couzens was also 3rd in the 75m hurdles (13.7s) as well equalling her personal best height in the high jump in finishing 2nd (1.30m).  Ben Groves made a fine a start in the under 13 age group winning the high jump with a 1.30m clearance as well as the B Long jump with 3.74m.  Thomas Whitley is a new name for the middle distances and he finished a fine 1st in the under 13 800 metres (2mins 46.9s) as well as winning the B high jump (1.05m). Whitley was also a good 2nd in the under 13 javelin (15.05m).

There were further wins in the under 13 girl B string middle distances with Lottie Doherty in the 800 metres (2mins 59.1s) and Amelia Cox in the 1200 metres (4mins 30.1secs).  Emilia Sims was an impressive 2nd in the under 13 girl’s 150 metres cocking 23.9s).

And good points were earned by some of the Bicester debutants.    Joe Mimpress was first in the under 15 B 80m hurdles (17 secs) and 2nd in the under 15 javelin (15.82m).  Joseph Rayner took 2nd in the under 15 boy’s 100m (15.1s) as well 4th in the 200m (30.1s) and 4th in the Long Jump (4.46m).

And in the relays the Bicester quartet of Amelia Cox, Emilia Sims, Erin Fabni and Millie Couzens were 2nd in the under 4x 100 metres with a 61secs clocking.
