Sportshall Meeting 2 – Kidlington 17th November 2013

Bicester Athletic Club’s Sportshall Athletics team had an excellent match in the 2nd round of the Oxfordshire Sportshall league at the Kidlington & Gosford Leisure Centre on 17th November 2013

The Under 11 Boys produced some excellent performances on the day with many of the team making their sportshall competition debuts. Thomas Kavanagh, Lucas Williams, Sean Lock and Ellis Griffiths-Brown ran superbly to take 1st place in the 1 lap races. Kavanagh teamed up with George Starkey-Vickers to gain 1st place in the standing long jump. With team mates Ben Groves, Samuel Worfolk and Michael Cadle the boys ran to victory in the 4×1 lap relays to finish the day in 1st place overall.

A tough competition was faced by the Under 11 Girls. The quartet of Katie Ford, Erin McDonnell, Abigail D’Silva and Lucy Gardner gained a 1st place finish in the speed bounce event. With team mates Georgie Cordy, Amelia Cox, Ruby Silvester and Emilia Sims gaining valuable points in their events, the girls finished the day in 2nd place overall.

It was a dominant performance from the Under 13 Boys. JJ Welham, Fergus Jones, Caelan Coney and William Sims started the day with 1st place in the obstacle relay. First place was also gained by Sims and Welham in the speed bounce. Sims then teamed up with Harvey Attrill to take 1st place in the shot putt. The boys then finished the day with a strong performance to take 1st place in the 4×2 lap relay and finish 1st overall.

The Under 13 Girls age group was a closely fought competition. Orlaith Lyford and Lauren Garside gained 1st place in the 2 lap races. In the tough 6 lap races Holly Griffiths-Brown and Amy Gould gained another magnificent 1st place finish. The quartet of Molly Acton, Lyford, Garside and Griffiths-Brown ran to victory in the 4×2 lap relay. With team mates Maisie Silvester and Holly Hunter the girls finished the day in 2nd place overall, only 2 points behind Radley.

Connor Wilce made a winning return to the standing triple jump in the Under 15 Boys competition. It was a Wilce one-two in this event with Zak Wilce taking 2nd place. The standing long jump saw Tom Gould and Alex Jack gain 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The boys also shone on the track with Connor Wilce taking 2nd place in the 2 Lap, with Jack gaining 5th place, recovering well from an unfortunate slip. The 4 lap saw Zak Wilce gain 3rd place, with Gould in 4th. The boys then ran superbly to break the league record in the 4×2 lap relay. The boys finished the day in 2nd place overall.

Not to be outdone by the boys, Olivia Stock was in excellent form for the Under 15 Girls taking 1st place in the standing long jump, 3rd place in the 2 lap race, and 4th place in the shot putt. Emma Ford took 6th place in the 2 lap race and 7th place in the standing long jump. Team mates Yolanda Martin and Jessica Stowell also gained valuable points by taking 3rd and 5th place respectively in the standing triple jump and Rhiannon Penfold took 5th place in the shot putt. The girls finished the day with a 2nd place finish in the 4×2 lap relay, to finish the day in 2nd place overall

Sportshall Meeting 3 – Witney 19th January 2014

Thirty seven Bicester athletes travelled to the third round match of the Oxfordshire Sportshall League at the Windrush Leisure Centre, Witney. All six Bicester age group teams had an excellent competition. .

The Under 11Girls of Millie Couzens, Georgie Cordy, Amelia Cox and Erin McDonnell ran superbly to take 1st place in the 1 lap races. Couzens and Rushani Arumugham also took 1st place finishes in the vertical jump and 3 lap races. Arumugham and Cordy teamed up to win the chest push event. McDonnell, Katie Ford, Holly Hunt and Georgia Usher bounced to a fine 2nd place in the speed bounce competition. The girls finished the day in 1st place overall.

In the Under 11 Boys competition Thomas Kavanagh, Josiah Edwards-Giraud, Lucas Williams and Edward Jolliffe stormed to 1st place in the 1 lap races. Kavanagh then teamed up with Sean Lock and jumped to 1st place finish in the vertical jump. Edwards-Giraud and George Starkey-Vickers also took a 1st place finish, this time in the chest push. Edwards-Giraud teamed with Ellis Griffiths-Brown, Cody McDonnell and Cameron Stock to bounce to 2nd place in the speed bounce. The boys finished their competition in 1st place overall.

The Under 13 Girls started their competiton with Amy Gould, Molly Acton, Alice Daniel and Holly Griffiths-Brown claiming a 1st place finish in the obstacle relay. Griffiths-Brown and Gould ran superbly to take 1st place in the 6 lap races. Daniel and Lauren Garside were 1st in the vertical jump. Garside and Griffiths-Brown ran an excellently paced race for 1st in the 8 lap paarlauf relay. With team mate Orlaith Lyford also gaining valuable points throughout the day the girls finished in 1st place overall, just one point ahead of rivals Banbury.

It was a dominant performance by the Under 13 Boys team, finishing just two points shy of a maximum score. Olly Lewis, in his first competition for the club teamed up with Harvey Attrill for 1st place in the 2 lap races. Lewis then teamed up with Fergus Jones for 1st place in the shot putt, and Tom Couzens for 1st place in the 6 lap races. The boys finished the day in style with Jones and Lewis dominating the 8 lap parlauf relay for 1st place, and the 4×2 lap relay team of Couzens, Attrill, William Sims and Caelan Coney also finishing 1st.

It was a close competition for the Under 15 athletes. In the girls match Rhiannon Penfold took 1st place in the standing long jump. Olivia Stock was 2nd in the vertical jump and 3rd in the 2 lap. With Emma Ford and Jessica Stowell also competing well, the girls were 2nd in the 4×2 lap relay and finished in 2nd place overall. For the boys Connor Wilce was 1st in the 2 lap and the standing triple jump. Tom Gould claimed 2nd place in the standing long jump with team mate Alex Jack in 3rd. Jack also took 2nd place in the shot putt. Zak Wilce finished the day with a clutch of 3rd places in the 4 lap, standing triple jump and speed bounce. The boys ended the competition with 2nd place in the 4×2 lap relay and 2nd place overall
