A small but select group of Bicester AC athletes took part in the opening Oxfordshire summer open track and field fixture last Sunday at Radley. Samuel Rayson took the plaudits as he landed two of the under 13 events. Rayson set a new personal best with a resounding win in the 75 metre hurdles. His 14.21secs clocking was just 0.1 secs off a national grade 3 standard. Rayson also beat bit a big field in the long jump, just missing out on a personal best with a 3.85m leap. Rayson also finished 7th in the 100 metres (15.61secs) with clubmate Michael Cadle 12th in 16.06secs. Cadle also finished 3rd in the javelin (15.81m).
Ben West, fresh from a hugely successful cross country season, made a victorious comeback to the track with an impressive win in the under 17 men’s 1500 metres (4mins 21.92secs). There was a also a win for Amber Parker in the under 15 girl’s discus (16.20m). Parker had a busy afternoon placing 3rd in the shot (7.35m) and 5th in the javelin (11.54m). Molly Acton was 5th in a competitive under 17 girl’s 800 metre race (2mins 43.67secs).
