Leo Blyton was Bicester AC’s sole representative in the prestigious Bannister mile race meeting held at the iconic Iffley Road Track venue where the first ever sub 4 minute mile was run. There was a succession of races which included an elite men’s race where the first 4 finishers were all inside 4 minutes. Many of Britain’s top milers of all ages made the trek to Iffley Road. Blyton contested what was the top under 15 boy’s race i.e. mile L. This attracted 9 runners with James Longworth eventually coming out on top with a winning time of 4mins 38.46secs. Blyton was quite close behind running superbly to finish in 3rd. His time of 4mins 40.91secs smashed the previous under 15 boy’s Bicester AC club record by 17 seconds that had been set by Blyton the previous year.
