Club Chairman Steve Flynn opened Bicester AC’s annual winter presentation evening on Friday 20th March at the Highfield Club. The principal purpose of the evening was to hand out trophies  and awards for Bicester AC’s best Cross Country and Sportshall performers. However it was also a good opportunity for team managers to reprise club performances during the winter in the indoor athletic competitions and cross country.

Cross country manager Emma Gould was able to wax lyrical on what had been a tremendous winter season.  82 athletes had attended training sessions throughout the winter and 53 of these competed in at least one event in the Oxon Mail Cross Country League event with a third of this number competing in all 5 events. One of these was Amy Gould who enjoyed her best ever cross country season, this culminated in overall victory in the under 13 girl’s competition in the Oxon Mail League. Along the way, Amy collected a further silver medal in the County Championships. She also medalled with Holly Griffiths Brown and Molly Acton in the team competition winning a silver and the same athletes plus Maisie Silvester also collected silver in the County Championships. Amy also represented her county in the Inter County Cross Country Championships and was Oxfordshire’s best finisher in the under 13 girl’s race in the National Championships. For these combined Amy was given the award for best girl performer.

Freddie Taylor also enjoyed his best ever cross country season in the under 11 boy’s competitions. His consistently high finishes in the league competition gave him the bronze medal in the final league standings and this was good enough to earn the best boy performer award. For much of season Imogen Cox was Oxfordshire’s best performer in the under 9 competition and her efforts included an excellent gold medal in the County Championships. Imogen was awared the trophy for best under 11 junior female and there was double celebration for the Cox family as Amelia’s excellent third place in the final under 11 girl race, in the Oxford Mail League, earned her the award for the most improved performer of the year.

Other Bicester gongs were awarded to Ben Groves (outstanding contribution), Samuel Worfolk (boy team member of the year) and Libbie Nicklin (girl team member of the year). Special mention was also made of Ben West and Tom Gould who were both selected to compete in the English Schools Cross Country Championships held in Blackburn.

Clyde Goodwin, manager for the Sportshall Indoor League team, handed out awards for the best performers throughout the season incorporating training performances.  Clyde was able to report on a very successful season for Bicester in the Oxfordshire Sportshall Indoor league with both the under 11 boys and girls teams taking 2nd place in the team competition. This included an outstanding performance by Millie Couzens who broker the League 3 lap record at Witney.

The under 13 league competition was dominated by the Bicester team for both boys and girls.  At the end of the season the League awarded Millie Couzens and Holly Griffiths Brown gold medals in the under 11 and under 13 categories whilst Lauren Garside (under13), Tom Couzens (under13) and Lewys Jones (under 15) took silver medals.
