Bicester AC combined with Banbury Harriers for round 1 of the upper age group competition in their UK Youth Development League North East Match held on Sunday 1st may at Drayton.  Against high level competition Bicester and Banbury finished 6th out of the 8 competing teams.

It was a busy day for Jess Cherry who competed in 4 throwing events in the under 20 age group.  Her best performance was in the hammer throw where she produced a fine winning throw of 23.45m in the under 20 event for Bicester’s only win of the day.  In the process Cherry set a new club records mark.  She was a fine 2nd in a competitive shot with a putt of 10.06m as well as finishing 3rd in the discus (21.19m) and 6th in the javelin (18.27m).

Orlaith Lyford was in personal best form in her two individual events.  Lyford placed 5th in the under 17 80 metre hurdles with a new personal best mark of 14.43secs and also placed 6th in the shot with a putt of 6.38m.  Emily Benfield also had a busy day as she placed 5th in the under 20 100 metres (14.6secs), 5th in the 200 metres (31.3secs) and 6th in the Long Jump (4.21m).  Benfield and Lyford were also part of the team who placed 6th in the under 20 woman’s 4 by 100 metre relay.

Tom Gould, fresh from his effort on Thursday in the Motavation road race, also competed placing 4th in the under 20 men’s 3000 metres clocking 11mins 13.3secs.  Gould also competed in the under 20 men’s 4 by 100 metre relay where the team placed 5th.
