Bicester AC finished 4th in their 2nd round match UK Youth Development League match held at Tipton on Saturday 21st May.  There were a number of personal bests amongst the competing Bicester athletes but wins were hard earned.  Oscar Honour enjoyed a successful afternoon in the under 15 boy’s throwing events and helped himself to two new personal bests.  He threw a new personal best mark of 27.29m to take the javelin competition and finished runner up in his two other events, the shot with a new personal best putt of 9.11m and the discus (27.29m).

It was also a good day for Freddie Taylor as he ran his best 1500 metres taking 2nd in 5m14.6s in the under 13 boy’s race.  He went one better in the long jump winning with a new personal best leap of 4.14m.  Taylor, along with club compatriot Edward Joliffe who won the B event (4.00m), produced the two longest jumps in the competition.  Not to be outdone fellow under 13 Thomas Whitley also achieved a brace of personal bests finishing 2nd in the 800 metres (2mins 42.6secs) and taking the same position in the javelin (16.81m).

One of the most impressive winners of the day was much improved Jamil Welham who finished 3 secs clear of the field in taking the under 15 boy’s 300 metres (41.7secs).  Welham also took 3rd palce in his first ever high jump competition (1.45m).  There was an impressive new personal best for Amelia Cox who took the under 13 girl’s javelin with a national grade 3 effort of 19.30m  Cox also finished a creditable 4th in the 1200 metres with 4mins 26.15s.  Lauren Garside enjoyed a good afternoon in the under 15 events and notched up a good win in the shot (6.77m) and augmented that performance with a good 2nd in the long jump (4.28).  Garside was part of the winning quartet in the under 15 girl’s 4 by 100 metre relay (57.7secs) which also included Molly Acton, Tia Brown and Charlotte Hewett.

Amy Gould ran a season’s best in taking 3rd place in the under 15 girl’s 1500 metres (5misn 25.1sec s) and racked up some very good points in unfamiliar events such as the 75m hurdles (17secs) and 300 metres (50.5secs).  Molly Acton ran a season’s best in finishing 4th in the under 15 girl’s 800 metres (2m 35.3s) also placing 2nd in the B shot (5.65m) And 5th in the 300 metres (47.4s).  Paige Scarlett produce a new lifetime best in the high jump taking 3rd in the under 15 girl’s event with a 1.33m clearance.

Amber Parker enjoyed a good performance in the under 13 girls shot as she took 2nd with a putt of 6.26m and she was also 3rd in the B javelin (9.70m).  Sean Lock achieved no less than 3 personal bests in the under 13 events winning the B 1500 metres (5m 20.8s), the B high jump (1.05m) and was 5th in the B shot (3.96m).  Michael Cadle was also in personal best form as he took 2nd in the B under 13 800 metres with 2m 47.8s.
