Bicester Athletic Club competed at the final sportshall athletics fixture held at Bicester Leisure Centre on 17th March 2013. There were superb performances by all 36 members of the team, with many league records broken in the process.
The Under 11 Boys had a fantastic competition breaking 3 league records. First record of the day was the Obstacle Relay team of William Sims, JJ Welham, Thomas Kavanagh and Hayden Durrant. Tom Couzens ran an exceptional 3 lap to take victory and a new league record, breaking the old one by almost a second. The boys competition ended in style with Joe Liddicot, Sims, Josiah Edwards-Giraud and Couzens breaking the league record in the 4×1 lap relay. With team mates Archie Scott and Ellis Griffiths-Brown the boys gained a maximum competition score and won the league, dropping only 1 point over the whole season. Individual athlete end of season medals were won by Couzens taking the gold and Edwards-Giraud the bronze.
The Under 11 Girls also performed well. Holly Griffiths-Brown ran an excellent 3 lap race to break the league record that had previously stood for 12 years. A league record was also broken by the 4×1 lap relay quartet of Molly Acton, Lucy Stowell, Griffiths-Brown and Lauren Garside. Team mates Mollie Bird, Millie Couzens, Amy Gould, Holly Hunter, Tomoka Moore and Maisie Silvester performed superbly in their events to take 1st place on the day and the overall league title. An individual athlete gold medal was also won by Griffiths-Brown. The excellent performances by both Under 11 teams led to a stunning 1st place in the combined plate category, winning by a massive 140 points.
For the first time this season, the Under 13 Boys were able to field a full team. Fergus Jones led the way with a winning 4 lap time which equalled the league record, and with B string athlete Lewys Jones also running well took a 1st place finish in the event. An excellent team debut was made by Judahne Medley gaining valuable points in the 2 lap and standing triple jump. Owen Acton, Harvey Attrill and Ben West also contributed towards an excellent points score to finish the league in 2nd place overall. Fergus Jones also won a well deserved silver medal in the individual athlete competition.
In the Under 13 Girls age group Olivia Stock broke the league record which had stood for 10 years with an excellent 58cm vertical jump with Alice Daniel jumping 55cm to equal the old record. Stock also teamed up with Rhiannon Penfold to take victory in the closely fought 2 lap races. Cerys Cherry, Orlaith Lyford and Yolanda Martin also contributed valuable points in their events for the girls to take 2nd place overall. Gold medals were collected by Stock and Daniel in the individual athlete competition. The excellent performances by the Under 13 Boys and Girls took them to victory in the overall combined category to beat a strong Banbury team by just 9 points.
The Under 15 Boys have competed superbly this season. Connor Wilce took 1st place in the standing long jump and 3rd places in the 2 lap and shot. Zak Wilce took 2nd place in the speed bounce and 3rd place in the standing triple jump. Alex Jack and Tom Gould took 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the 4 lap races. Not to be outdone, Frances Goss the sole representative in the Under 15 Girls took 1st place in the standing long jump and 3rd place in the speed bounce. The Under 15 Girls finished in 4th place overall, and the Boys gained a magnificent 1st place, with all the Bicester athletes at this competition still eligible to compete in this age group next year.
