30 athletes from Bicester AC made the long journey to Cirencester on 2nd February for the 3rd round of the Oxford Mail League. The team were amply rewarded with several fine performances with 5 runners achieving top ten finishers.
Despite finishing only 14th in the under 13 girl’s race Sophie Wheeler leads the overall standings in her category with just one race to go. However it was Amy Gould who produced her best run of the season so far over the 2000 metre course finishing an outstanding 6th in 9mins 50secs. Molly Acton and Jennie Procter had a tremendous battle with Acton, 19th just gaining the verdict over Procter who placed 20th. Both runners were credited with the same time. One of the biggest improvers of the day was Erin Higginbottom in 26th place. Other Bicester finishers included Maisie Silvester (29th), Kerry Hickman (31st), Sydney McDiarmid (36th), Lucy Stowell (37th) and Holly Hunter (40th). Bicester’s team in this category remain a strong 3rd place with one race left.
One of the runs of the day came from Millie Couzens in the under 11 event as she ran her best every cross country race in Bicester colours with the clubs highest placing of the day. Couzens was an outstanding 4th representing a 9 place improvement on her previous run. Couzens’s compatriots in the under 11 race included Freya Smith (29th), Nicole Heijinck (40th), Evie Price (44th), Millie Cox (47th) and Katie Ford (49th).
Freddie Taylor continues to feature strongly in the under 11 boy’s race and he improved his overall standing position to equal 6th with one race to go. Taylor was once again prominent as he finished 7th over the 1000 metre course. Other Bicester finishers included Samuel Worfolk (27th) and newcomer Thomas Pringle (32nd).
Georgia Usher was once again in the top ten in the combined under 9 race and for the 3rd race running she was the leading girl competitor. Michael Cadle has also been very consistent placing in the top six in every race and on this occasion he placed 5th. There was an improved effort from Bethan Workman down in 38th place and Ava Neptune did well to finish 44th in her first ever cross country race. Other Bicester finishers included Ben Groves (21st), Ruby Silvester (34th) and Erin Disbrey (43th).
Tom Gould remains just outside the first three places in the under 15 category with one race to go. Gould produced another solid effort to place 14th in the under 15/17 category returning a time of 22misn 42secs over the 3 mile course. Owen Cox was Bicester’s other finisher in this category (22nd). Tom Couzens was Bicester’s sole finisher in the under 13 boy’s race and he was a fine 12th clocking 9mins 16secs for the 2000 metre course.
