Bicester Athletic Club’s Sportshall teams started this season’s campaign with an excellent and exciting first match of the Oxfordshire Sportshall League season at the Bicester & Ploughly Sports Centre. With lots of athletes making their debuts for the team there were a number of fantastic performances.
The Under 11 girls got the match off to a flying start with Millie Couzens, Holly Griffiths-Brown, Tomoka Moore and Molly Acton setting a new league record in the obstacle relay. Griffiths-Brown, Lauren Garside, Lucy Stowell and Isabelle Kinsella-Miles ran superbly to take 1st place in the 1 lap races. The speedbounce quartet of Amy Gould, Acton, Stowell and Moore took another victory as did Couzens and Kinsella-Miles in the vertical jump. Griffiths-Brown and Acton continued the winning streak in the 3 lap races. With team mates Maisie Silvester and Amelia Cox the girls also won the 4×1 lap relays to finish the match in 1st place overall.
The Under 11 boys had an excellent match finishing only one point shy of the maximum points available to finish in 1st place overall. Tom Couzens, William Sims, Hayden Durrant and William Tyrrell took 1st place in the one lap races. The quartet of Ellis Griffiths-Brown, Callum Kidd, Durrant and Tyrrell secured another 1st place in the speedbounce as did Durrant and Griffiths-Brown in the vertical jump. Couzens and Sims ran superbly to dominate the 3 lap races, and also took 1st place in the chest push. With excellent performances by Edward Jolliffe and Cameron Stock the boys rounded off their match with another 1st place finish in the 4×1 lap relays.
Alice Daniel and Rhiannon Penfold took a stunning victory in the Under 13 girls standing triple jump. The obstacle relay quartet of Jennie Proctor, Erin Higginbottom, Elen Holt and Orlaith Lyford gained a valuable 2nd place. Penfold and Olivia Stock took a fine 2nd place in the 2 lap races with Penfold and Proctor finishing in 2nd in the 4 lap races. In the field events Stock and Daniel gained 2nd place in the vertical jump as did Holt and Lyford in the shot putt. The girl finished the day in 2nd place overall.
Fergus Jones and Ben West took a superb 1st place in the hard 4 lap races for the under 13 boys. Victory was also secured in the shot putt by Jake Cherry and Owen Acton. Jones and Adam Hunter took 2nd place in the vertical jump as did Cherry and Jones in the standing triple jump. The boys then took 1st place in the 4×2 lap relay to finish the match in 2nd place, only one point behind the winners.
Not to be outdone the Under 15 team put in some excellent performances with Jess Cherry taking 1st place in the standing long jump and 2nd place in the shot putt. Team mate Lauren Page gained 3rd place in the vertical jump. The girls then ran well to take 3rd place in the 8 lap paarlauf relay. The girls finished in 4th place overall. In the boys competition Connor Wilce secured victory in the standing long jump. Not to be outdone twin brother Zak Wilce gained excellent 2nd places in the standing triple jump and speedbounce. Alex Jack ran superbly to take 2nd place in the 4 lap race with team mate Tom Gould finishing strongly to take 3rd. Gould and Jack ran a fantastic 8 lap paarlauf relay to take 2nd place with the Under 15 boys finishing the match in 1st place overall.
