Eight Bicester AC athletes made the trip to Bedford last Saturday for the penultimate round of the Chiltern Cross Country League run in muddy and windy conditions.
Elsie Jacobs has enjoyed an excellent winter season and she was again Bicester’s highest placer with 6th place in the under 11 girl’s race clocking 8mins 03secs for the 2km circuit. Jacobs was a little below her best facing stiff competition from in particular Marshall Milton Keynes AC, but she still holds 3rd place in the under 11 girl rankings with one event remaining. Amber Busby also competed for Bicester AC in the under 11 girls race finishing 42nd in 9mins 27secs.
Owen Stocker has been one of Bicester’s most consistent performers throughout the season and in a very competitive under 13 boy’s race run over 3km, Stocker achieved his highest ever Chiltern League placing of 7th and 3rd place amongst the division 2 starters. Stocker’s time of 11mins 39secs was just 28secs off first place and moved him up to 4th place in the overall standings. Joshua Smith has performed well in his first cross country season and finished 36th in 12mins 33secs. The under 13 boy’s team retain a superb second place in the overall standings with one race to go.
Jenny Critchley has shown much improved form over the country this season and she ran very well for 14th in the under 15 girl’s race clocking 15mins 46secs for the 4km distance. Critchley was also well placed amongst the division 2 finishers placing 3rd and finished ahead of the girl who is currently placed 2nd in the overall division 2 standings.
Although normally known for his exploits in track and field, Ben Groves is putting together some decent cross country efforts and he ran well for 36th in the under 15 boy’s race clocking 15mins 42secs for the 4km distance.
Two of Bicester’s senior athletes made their Chiltern League debuts and both performed well. Arran Critchley (vet 45) did well to finish 321st in the senior men’s race clocking 57mins 35secs for the 10.2km course. Emily Benfield, a stalwart from track and field, was having her second cross country season of the season and she performed well for 229th clocking 42mins 00secs for 6.4km course.
