Another bumper turnout of 24 Bicester AC runners contested the 2nd round of the Chiltern League Cross Country held last Saturday in Milton Keynes.  This round was combined with the cross challenge which meant that several runners external to the Chiltern League were competing.  Therefore higher places were harder to gain than normal.

Ever improving Elsie Jacobs, who is in her first season of cross country for the club, produced her best run of the season so far in the under 11 girl’s event race run over 2,000 metres. Jacobs finished a magnificent 7th  out of the 82 strong field clocking 6mins 44secs, which was a six place improvement on her first round effort.  Significantly she finished in front of 5 of the athletes who had beaten her in round 1.  Other Bicester placings in the under 11 girl’s race were Maya Evans 74th 8mins 21secs, Isabel Smith 75th  (8mins 24secs) and Annie Rose Willis 81st (8mins 34secs).

Bicester AC’s under 13 girls have been in scintillating form at the start of the season and Anna Jolliffe produced another superb run to finish 18th in 11mins 13secs for the 2,500 plus metre course.  In the division 2 race Jolliffe finished in 2nd  place.  She was again well supported by Lucy McGrath who was 31st  (11mins 40secs) in the mob match and 7th in the division 2 race.  The team placings were completed by Jenny Crtichley in 52nd place (12mins 22secs) which helped the team to a strong 2nd place in the team standings after two events.

Bicester were also well represented in the under 15 boy’s race run over a 4,000 metre plus course.  Like Jacobs, Louis Bushby in his first season of cross country for the club and he produced an outstanding run on Saturday placing 27th (14mins 29secs).  His race included a high proportion of external runners, therefore discounting these from the standing, he placed 9th amongst the Chiltern League Runners and 3rd in the division 2 race.  Also amongst the first three counters for the team were Edward Jolliffe 59th in 15mins 24secs and debutant Jacob Neal who finished a fine 72nd (16mins 15secs).  This helped the team to finish 2nd place after two races.  Other Bicester finishers were Michael Albourpour 80th (16mins 36secs), Romi Edwards 92nd (17mins 39secs), Samuel Rayson 98th (18mins 20secs) and Zacharia Singer 100th (18mins 31secs).

The under 11 boys performed well in their race run over 2000 metres.  As in round 1 Noah Eastgate led the team home in 30th place (6mins 56secs).  He was followed home by Thomas Auty, much improved from round 1 and placing 54th (7mins 13secs).  Other Bicester placings were Joel Hodges 57th (7mins 21secs), Kyle Rayson 68th (7mins 34secs) and Simon Cheeseman 97th (8mins 29secs).

Owen Stocker also confirmed his top Bicester placing from round 1 finishing 54th in the under 13 boy’s race over 2,500 plus metres with 11mins 12secs.  Other Bicester placings were Sami Singer 76th (12mins 02secs), Robert Charlton 91st (12mins 27secs) and Django La Porte 93rd (12mins 31secs).  And Samuel Worfolk was Bicester’s sole competitor in the under 17/20 men’s race placing 111th with 21mins 15secs for the 5,500 plus metre course and 9th in the division 2 race.
