Bicester AC’s Sam Rayson qualified for last weekend’s English Schools Combined Event Championships held in Bedford and finished a creditable 26th in the under 17 men’s octathlon. The octathlon involves competing over a range of disciplines involving running, jumping and throwing.
Rayson’s haul of eight events includes a new personal best throw in the discus (27.37m). Although down on his best, Rayson was one of the highest placers in the high jump where he produced a national grade 4 clearance of 1.74m. Rayson’s effort of 5.70m in the long jump was also a national grade 4 mark. Rayson’s eight events were completed by the 100m hurdles (15.78secs), 400m (60.75secs), 1,500 metres (5mins 53.48secs), shott putt (9.97m) and javelin throw (24.31m).
