A small contingent of Bicester AC athletes represented Oxfordshire Schools at last Saturday’s ESSA English Schools Cross Country Championships, which took place at Paddock Wood in Kent.

Finlay Colverson-Martin has had a busy Winter season and Saturday was his second run in the National Schools Cross Country Championships.  This was also his third major national cross country championship event in less than a month.  Competing in the intermediates boy’s race run over 5.75km,  Colverson- Martin improved significantly on his previous national schools event when he finished 247th.  Lined up as 8th runner in the Oxfordshire starting pen, which meant starting towards the rear of the 325 strong field,  Colverson-Martin ran strongly to thread his way through the field to finish 58th  clocking 20mins 52secs.  He was one of only two Oxfordshire runners to place in the top 100 with the team finishing 21st out of the 42 completing teams.

Another Bicester runner to make the top 100 was Anna Jolliffe who finished 98th (15mins 27secs) in the 331 strong field in the intermediate girl’s race run over a 3.875km circuit.  Jolliffe was also 2nd scorer for the Oxfordshire team that placed 28th out of the 44 competing teams.  Jolliffe improved significantly on her previous national school’s cross country placing of 242nd.

Thomas Styles won his first Oxfordshire vest in the junior boy’s race run over a 3.190km circuit.  Styles missed out on making the scoring team, which performed well to finish 8th out of 42 teams.  Styles produced a decent effort to finish in the top 200 (185th) clocking 15mins 14secs in the 330 strong field.
