Seven Bicester AC athletes were selected for their county in last Saturday’s English National Schools Cross Country Championships held in Leeds. There were three Bicester athletes selected for Oxfordshire in the intermediate boy’s race run over 5.220km and all three made the scoring team which finished 38th.
Hugo Jinks has enjoyed a very good first season’s action for the club and he ran very well to finish in the top half of what was a very strong field. Jinks finished 158th clocking 18mins 57secs and was Oxfordshire’s second counter. Louis Bushby has competed consistently well throughout the season in what has been his first season of cross country action for the club. He was Oxfordshire’s fourth counter clocking 19mins 43secs for 252nd. And Samuel Worfolk, who has shown a big improvement this season, also made the scoring team in 289th (20mins 22secs).
There were also three Bicester athletes selected to represent Oxfordshire in the Junior girl’s race run over 3km. Anna Jolliffe has enjoyed a very successful season and she produced a fine performance to finish 242nd (12mins 20secs) overturning form with one of her Oxfordshire teammates. She was also on this occasion too strong for Bicester teammate Lucy McGrath who was 284th (12mins 36secs) but McGrath was still a counter for the Oxfordshire team who finished 37th. Imogen Cox was outside of the team scorers but performed well for 320th (12mins 52secs). In the intermediate girls event Bicester AC’s Amelia Cox was the 4th scorer for the Oxfordshire team who were 34th. Cox finished 214th clocking 15mins 45secs for the 3.710k distance.
