Having competed in the English School’s Track and Field Championships for the first time during the summer, Erlgean Appiahkorang-Mensah competed recently in the English Schools’ AA Junior Boys Combined Event Championships held in Stoke.  Due to the weather, the 800 metres could not be held reducing the junior boy’s competition to 4 events.  This was disappointing for Appiahkorang-Mensah as 800m is his strongest event.

Appiahkorang-Mensah did incredibly well to qualify for the final and would have gained useful experience.  He started off well with a new personal best and EA PB level 6 run of 12.6secs in the 80m hurdles which saw him in 23rd place.  However he dropped to 33rd after event 2 with a putt of 8.32m in the shot which was over 70cms below his best.  He was also below his best in the long jump with a leap of 4.67m but retained his 33rd place overall going into what was the last event the high jump.  He was not able to get near his best form in the high jump and his leap of 1.35m dropped him down a further two places for a final 35th finish with 1,632 points.  However his combined events performance earlier in the season of 2,479 points achieved at the Midlands Regional final places him 24th in the national rankings and 7th in the South East.
