Bicester AC’s Kyle Rayson contested his first ever octathlon when representing Oxfordshire in the recent ESAA Midland Combined Events Championships. Rayson finished 8th with a final total of 3,249 points from the eight events he contested. He started really well with a new personal best leap of 5.38m, which left him in 4th place. His next two events were throwing events where he threw 18.16m in the discus but did manage a best in the javelin (22.92m). One of his best points haul was in the 400m, in his first attempt at the distance, with a decent looking 57.99secs. His best performance was in the 100m hurdles where he produced an EA level 5 clocking of 15.20secs which was the 3rd fastest in the competition and very close to his best. His high jump effort of 1.56m was close to his best and he improved to 6th. He then produced a decent shot putt effort of 8.55m which took him up to 5th with one event to go. Making his debut at the 1,500m he was 7th fastest on the day with 5mins 36.96secs but that effort dropped him three places to eventually finish 8th.
