Five Bicester athletes were selected to pick to run for the Oxfordshire County School team to run in the English Schools Athletic Cross Country Championships held last Saturday in Pontefract.

With six of the team needing to score, Oxfordshire had only five team scorers in the senior girl’s event run over an approximate 4.5km course and therefore did not feature in the final team classifications.  Anna Jolliffe was first home of the Oxfordshire runners placing in the top 100 in a very good 95th place in the 307 strong field clocking 17mins 29secs.  This was three places better than her previous English School’s best placing.

The Oxfordshire team finished a superb 9th in the senior boy’s event run over an approximate 6km course.  Bicester AC’s Owen Stocker was up against some older athletes so did very well to finish 119th place (21mins 54secs) in the 307 strong field as well as being 5th scorer for the Oxfordshire team.  This was Stocker’s best performance in a national English school’s championship and he was just 4 seconds behind the athlete who pipped him for the title in the Oxfordshire League. There were Bicester AC athletes selected for the Oxfordshire team in the junior boy’s race contested over an approximate 3km course and all made the scoring 6.  Leo Blyton and Darragh Cassidy were competing against older athletes so both did well to make the top 200 finishers in the 343 strong field.  On this occasion Cassidy finished in front of Blyton in 186th clocking 11mins 27 secs and was Oxfordshire’s 2nd scorer.  Blyton was Oxfordshire’s 3rd scorer and was close behind in 197th place (11mins 30secs) with Bicester’s Erlgean Appiahkorang-Mensah 5th team scorer for 220th place (11mins 35secs)
