Bicester Athletic Club youngster, Simon Cheeseman (12) is the latest to undertake a sponsored event to support the campaign to raise £100,000 for a new track and field area.

Simon was handed the fundraising baton by fellow athlete, Cyrus Ariana (nine), who raised nearly £900 by running a mile a day throughout August.

Simon is now taking on the next leg by walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall on a virtual 90-mile challenge, at three miles a day for September. Dressed as a Roman and carrying a Bicester Athletic Club shirt shield, Simon has already raised £500 with residents of Ambrosden tooting their support as they drive by.

Clare Kavanagh of the fundraising committee said “Cyrus and Simon have shown what can be achieved by our young athletes and are a credit to the club. Their outstanding fundraising efforts are a valuable addition to the fundraising campaign.”

All money raised will go towards the cost of new all-weather facilities estimated at £100,000 which the club will need to find themselves.

The club caters for all children of any ability aged eight and above and has competitions all year round both indoor and outdoor which includes cross county.

Any local business or resident wishing to get involved or sponsor Simon should visit his fundraising page at or can donate to the club via their website. The club welcomes new members of any ability who want to improve their fitness or parents/carers who want to volunteer. See website for details.
