Bicester AC’s Ben Groves went through the complete metamorphosis of jumper and sprinter to long distance runner by completing last Sunday’s London Marathon.  Awarded the club’s discretionary London Marathon place, Groves had competed in road races last Summer with some promising performances in the Kidlington Motavation series.  Those races are between 4 and 5.5 miles in distances; the London Marathon is 26.2 miles.  Despite eschewing from competing in some of the familiar warm up races preceding the London Marathon, Groves did extremely well to get round completing the course in a time of 4 hours 14.17secs.  This despite falling down a pot hole at the 15 mile point and hurting his knee.  As an under 23 Groves would have been towards the younger end of those competing.
