Four Bicester AC athletes were selected to represent their county at last weekend’s National Schools Cross Country Championships held in Leeds. And Ben West once again demonstrated he is one of the country’s leading long distance runners for his age group as he produced his third top ten placing in a national recognised event in as many weeks. Competing in the senior boy’s race over a 6,800 metre course West was a splendid 6th in the 312 strong field. West was timed at 23mins 6secs and finished just 43secs behind Matthew Willis and 5 secs behind last weekend’s winner of the under 17 inter counties under 17 men’s race. Once again he got the better of old nemesis Milton Keynes’s Jack Meijer and helped the Oxfordshire team to a respectable half way placing in the team standings. And Once again West was easily Oxfordshire’s best finisher in the six contested events on the day
Max Nicolle recorded a top 100 finish in the intermediate boy’s event run over a 5,200 metre course. Nicolle was 97th with a 19mins 24secs clocking in the 339 strong field. Nicolle was the 6th scorer in a very strong Buckinghamshire team that finished 4th out of the 44 competing teams. Amelia Cox has been enjoying her best every cross country season and she produced another strong performance in the junior girl’s race run over 3,100 metres. Cox finished 137th out of the 342 finishers clocking 12mins 47secs and was 2nd scorer for the Oxfordshire team that finished 38th. And Oliver Conway did well to get selected for the county team in his first full season of cross country and he was 315th and 6th scorer for Oxfordshire in the junior boy’s race. Conway clocked 17mins 03secs for the 3,800 metre course.
