Erlgean Appiahkorang-Mensah put the disappointment of the recent inter county run behing him at last Wednesday’s final Oxford City AC midweek open meeting held at Horspath. Running in the 800m, Appihakorang-Mensah smashed the under 15 boy’s 800m club record which had stood for 30 years. Seeded in the fastest heat and racing against mainly older athletes, Appiahkorang-Mensah finished a superb 6th just over 2 seconds being the winning time, clocking 2mins 3.97secs. Appiahkorang-Mensah knocked over two seconds off his previous best and was over a second faster than the previous club record. He also achieved his 2nd EA PB level 9 mark of the summer to accompany his level 9 achievement in the 300m. EA PB level 9 is the highest recognised EA national standard. Appiahkorang-Mensah’s time currently places him 9th in the under 15 South East 800m rankings.
Bicester AC’s Cyrus Ariana competed in heat 3 of the 800m and was a little below his best in finishing 8th in 2mins 28.48secs which was still an EA PB level 5 under 13 boy’s 800m time. Bicester’s Emily Benfield competed in the long jump where she finished 7th in the 15 strong field with 3.93m.
