Ben Groves completed his metamorphosis from talented jumper to endurance athlete as he took on last Sunday’s Oxford Half Marathon. Groves ended the track and field season at the head of the rankings for the high, long and triple jumps as well as the 400m. However, Groves, still an under 20, has also competed very effectively during the summer in the Motavation road running race series. However, the distances of that event ranged from 4 to 5 miles only a fraction of the Oxford Half Marathon distance.
Given his track and field background Groves ran a fine race to finish 645th out of the 9,109 finishers clocking 1 hour 30 mins 54secs which was sub 7 minute miling. In the event Groves ran a well judges event starting off steadily and speeding up to the 10km mark before dropping off slightly in the closing stages.
