Sportshall Athletics

Bicester Athletic Club’s Sportshall teams started this season’s campaign with an excellent and exciting first match of the Oxfordshire Sportshall League season at the Bicester Leisure Centre. With lots of athletes making their debuts for the team there were many excellent performances.

The under11girls obstacle relay team of Anna Couzens, Bella Couzens, Katie Groves and Hollie Offord got the team off to a fine start with an excellent 1st place. Isla Bohannon, Charlotte Kavanagh, Imogen Cox and Offord ran excellent 1 lap races for another 1st place finish. Bohannon and Taylor took victory in the vertical jump. Bohannon finished her hat trick of event wins teamed up with Kavanagh in the chest push. The girls rounded off their match with 1st place in the 4×1 lap relays, and finished the competition in overall 1st place.

Seion Alexander, Julius Quist, Charlie Talboys and Alex Nicolaides took a fine 1st place in the 1 lap races. In the speed bounce competition Talboys was joined by Matthew Barker, Reuben Mitchell and Kyle Rayson to bounce to a superb 1st place. Alexander and Nicolaides jumped to 1st place in the vertical jump with Quist and Jacob Gough taking 1st place in the chest push. With team member Finn Cleary the boys finished off their match with 2nd place in the 4×1 lap relays. The boys finished in 1st place overall.

The under 13 girls team were against some very tough opposition. Erin Fabri, Amber Parker, Erin McWhinnie and Amelia Cox started the day with 2nd place in the obstacle relay. Parker and Fabri had an excellent shot putt competition to finish in 1st place with Emilia Sims and Starkey taking 2nd place in the standing triple jump. The girls rounded their match off with 1st place in the 4×2 laps relay. Overall the girls finished in joint 1st place in a 4 way tie with the teams from Banbury, Oxford and Witney.

It was a tough match for the under 13 boys team. Ben Groves, Sean Lock, Michael Cadle and Cameron Scarlet got the boys off to a great start taking 2nd place in the obstacle relay. Sam Rayson and Edward Jolliffe jumped to first place in the vertical jump. Rayson and Ryan Simpson took 2nd place in the standing triple jump as did Scarlett and Groves in the shot putt. The boys finished off with an excellent 1st place in the 4×2 laps relay finishing the day in 2nd place overall.

The under 15 teams were in fine form. The girls team performed superbly. Rushani Arumugham claimed 1st place in the 2 lap race with Lauren Garside, Tia Brown, Paige Scarlett taking 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively. Amy Gould and Paige Scarlett and Amy Gould shared 1st place in the speed bounce with Holly Hunter in 3rd. Garside claimed 1st place in the shot with Georgia Sanderson taking 2nd place. With team mate Charlotte Hewett also claiming valuable points, the girls took 2nd place in the 8 lap paarlauf and 1st place in the 4×2 lap relay to finish the day in 1st place overall.

For the boys team Will Sims claimed an excellent 1st place in the speed bounce with team mate Joseph Rayner in 2nd. Rayner also took 2nd place in the standing triple jump with JJ Welham in 3rd. Welham was dominant in the 4 lap race to take a fantastic 1st place finish. With debutant Connor Stark claiming 4th place in the standing long jump and the boys running to 2nd place in the 4×2 lap relay, they finished the day in 2nd place overall.
