Oxfordshire Young Athletes League – Horspath

Bicester AC’s Millie Couzens capped a fine season with a trio of wins in the last round of the Oxfordshire Young Athletes League held last Sunday at Horspath.  Couzens wins came in the 800 metres (2m 39.03s),  high jump (1.35m) and she was also victorious in the long jump.

Amber Parker has not stopped improving throughout the Summer and she was again in good form in her specialist event the shot chalking not only a win in the under 13 girl’s competition but a new club record in the process with a national grade 3 effort of 7.71m.  Parker received excellent support from compatriot Erin Farbi who landed the B string with a putt of 6.09m.  Parker also smashed her previous best in the javelin throwing 20.13m for 2nd place with Amelia Cox winning the B event (19.02m).  The same combination also gained valuable points in the discus placing 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The only other win for the under 13 girls came in the B high jump with Georgia Usher clearing 1.20m.  It was a good day for Bicester in this event as Ben Groves achieved a win in the under 13 boy’s event clearing 1.30m whilst Tom Couzens took 2nd in the under 15 boy’s event with a leap of 1.45m. Joseph Rayner was also 2nd in the B event with a new personal best of 1.30m.  Tom Couzens enjoyed another successful afternoon with a solid looking runner up spot in the 800 metres (2m 25.83s) and a new personal best of 4.84m in the long jump.

Jamil Welham has improved out all of recognition this season and in the under 15 boy’s 300 metres on Sunday he was very near his best placing 2nd in 40.79s.  He was well supported by Joe Lidicott who won the B event (44.68s).  Liddicot also ran well in the 200 metres(27.37s) and 800 metres (2m 51.58s).

There were no wins for the under 15 girls but a number of them managed runner up spots.  Molly Acton ran right up to her season’s best taking 2nd in the 800 metres (2m 30.58 secs) and she was also 3rd in the 300 metres (46.66secs).  There was also a 2nd place for Holly Hunter in the javelin (21.75m).  Lauren Garside set another club record in the under 15 girl’s shot where her putt of 8.48m was good enough for 3rd place. Garside was also a good 3rd in the long jump (3.99m) where she was supported by Rushani Aramugham who was 2nd in the B event (3.92m).  There were also 2nd places in the B events for Holly Hunter in the 1500 metres and Charlotte Hewett in the 75m hurdles.

The under 13 boys also found wins hard to come by but Hamish Turnbull recorded personal bests in the B 100 metres and 200 metres where he was 3rd and 2nd respectively with 15.32secs and 31.98secs.  Samuel Rayson was again in good form in the 75m hurdles with a national grade 3 effort of 14.20secs.  And Michael Cadle smashed his personal best in the javelin with a new mark of 21.27m with Aiden Fitton doing likewise in the B event where he threw 14.82m for 2nd place.  Thomas Whitely ran well for 3rd in the 800 metres (2m47.23s) whilst there were personal bests for Jamie Girling in the discus and Finn Graham in the shot.  Sam White also ran a personal best for 3rd in the under 15 100 metres (12.92s) and Samuel Worfolk also recorded a personal best in the under 15 boy’s shot.
