Several Bicester AC athletes were picked to their represent their schools at the recent Oxfordshire County Schools Championships held in Radley. The junior boy event comprised pupils currently in school year groups 8 and 9. Run over an approximate 5km course it was won by a year 9 pupil in 18mins 03secs. Bicester AC’s Darragh Cassidy and Leo Blyton who have both showed up well this year in the Oxfordshire Cross Country League showed up well in the 134 strong field. Cassidy produced what was probably his best run of the season finishing a superb 4th (18mins 24secs) and in front of Blyton on this occasion who was back in 5th (18mins 34secs). These were superb efforts by both Cassidy and Blyton who were in the younger year 8 age group and both were running over a longer distance than they would normally compete over. Bicester AC’s Erlgean Appiahkorang-Mensah also enjoyed what was probably his best cross country run of the season placing 8th in 18mins 55secs and was also 3rd year 9 finisher. This event is likely to have a bearing on selection of the national schools cross country championships so all three of these athletes should be in contention for selection. Bicester AC’s Max Finnegan also competed finishing in 74th (22 mins 17secs).
The intermediate and senior girls covering years 10 to 13 ran together in one race contested over an approximately 5km course. It was a closely contested race at the front end of the race with the winner clocking 19mins 31secs. Bicester AC’s Anna Jolliffe was contesting a shorter distance than normally covered in the Oxfordshire League but ran strongly for 6th just 34secs off first place in 20mins 05secs. Jolliffe was also the leading year 13 finisher. Bicester AC’s Evie Jasper also competed and did well to finish in 60th (36mins 36secs).
There was a huge field for the combined minor boys and girls race (years 5 to 7) contested over an approximate 1.6 to 2km course comprising a field of 249 athletes. Bicester AC’s Charlie Joiner produced one of his best cross country runs of the winter with a superb 5th place (8mins 17secs). Hannah Parson also ran finishing in 162nd place (10mins 17secs) and was 11th year 5 girl finisher out of the 25 year 5 girls that took part.
Bicester AC’s Isaac Moran contested the senior boy’s race comprising year 12 and 13 competitors. Isaac Moran enjoyed his finest cross country run of the winter so far with a strong performance for 11th place in the 48 strong field contested over an approximate 7km course. Moran was also the 4th year 12 finisher and stopped the clock at 26mins 50secs. Joshua Moran put in another sound run for 18th place (8th year 12 finisher) in 28mins 25secs. William Morris contested the inter boy’s race run over an approximate 6km distance and he ran up to expectations with 18th place in the 99 strong field. Morris was 7th year 10 finisher clocking 24mins 55secs. Three Bicester AC girls contested the junior girl’s race run over an approximate 4km course. There was a field of 110 runners with Ella Myers-Finnegan finishing a strong looking 18th (15mins 55secs) and was 9th year 9 finisher. Bicester’s other runners were Emelie Stocker who was 91st (21mins 35secs) and Grace Fulcher 103rd (22mins 49secs).
