Bicester AC recently hosted the first round of the Winter Long Oxfordshire Sportshall competition at Bicester and Ploughley Sports Centre.  There was a good Bicester turnout of nearly 30 athletes spread across the six age group competitions.  Bicester ended the day with a win in the under 11 girl’s competition, a combined win in the under girls/boys 13 competition and runner up spots in all of the age group competitions except the under 11 boys compeition.   

Standout performance in the under 13 boy’s competition was Erlgean Appiahkorang-Mensah’s run in the under 13 boy’s four lap competition where he broke the existing under 13 boy’s league record.  He clocked an impressive 50.8 secs and along with Max Finnegan (57.70secs) collected maximum points in the event for Bicester.  It was a good day for Appiahkorang-Mensah as he and Henry Unger also collected maximum points in the triple jump with Appiahkorang-Mensah’s jump of 6.16m the longest in the competition.  The team of Appiahkorang-Mensah, Finnegan, Unger and Finlay Haynes also combined well to take maximum points in the 4 by 2 lap relay (1mins 47.1secs).  Bicester’s under 13 boy’s team finished three points behind winning team Witney.

There was an impressive win by Bicester’s under 11 girl team.  Lily Childs had a very successful competition.  Childs along with Merial Woodrow, Olivia Neptune and Brianna Senior was part of the winning Bicester’s one lap team (55.10secs).  Childs also produced the highest number of bounces in the speed bounce competition (51) where the Bicester team finished 2nd.  Woodrow and Imogen Unger combined to win the under 17 girl’s vertical jump with Unger’s 42cms the best jump in the competition.  And the two Bicester 4 by 1 lap relay teams comprising Childs, Neptune, Woodrow, Under, Senior, Edith Haynes, Noran Amin and Emilia Lennon won in a combined time of 114.70secs.

The under 13 girl’s team performance included a win for Yasmine Sheppard and Charlotte Hornby in the 4 lap race with Sheppard’s time of 55.50secs the fastest of the day.  The team notched up several 2nd places which included Sheppard and Grace Jarvey in the two lap event , Sheppard and Liv Babister in the shot as well as 2nd places in the 8 laps paarlauf and 4 by 2 laps relay.  Also competing for Bicester in the under 13 girl’s events were Jessica Sheppard, who combined with Charlotte Hornby for 3rd  place in the triple jump and Molly Steward, who was making her debut, and she along with Grace Jarvey finished 5th in the vertical jump.

There was some good individual performances in the under 15 events with both the boys and girls’ teams finishing 2nd in the team classifications.  Kristin Senior enjoyed a very good competition with the highest points score in the all round competition, which included wins in the 2 lap event (24.1secs), vertical jump (57cms) and speed bounce (81).  She also combined with Georgia Bower for a win in the paarlauf (1mins 46.5secs).  Also competing for Bicester was Bethany Wetton whose efforts included a 4th place in the long jump (1.85m).

Bicester’s Kyle Rayson was Bicester’s leading points scorer in the under 15 boy’s competition. He managed wins in the 2 lap event (22.8secs) and shot putt but had to settle for 2nd place behind teammate Lincoln Jones in the triple jump, who won with an impressive 7.74m jump.  Rayson and Jones also combined to win the paarlauf.  Also competing for Bicester was Simon Cheeseman, whose efforts included 2nd place in the long jump (1.89m).

Bicester were a little under strength in the under 11 boy’s competition but Bicester’s four competitors covered the events well to finish 3rd overall.  Their efforts included a superb win in the speed bounce with the team of Cyrus Ariana, Oliver Jarvey, Finlay Harrell, and Charlie Simpson managing 183 steps in total.  Charlie Simpson, in his Bicester athletic debut produced an effort of 48 steps, the equal highest in the competition.
