Over 30 runners made the journey out of county for the second round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League held last Sunday in Cirencester. Star of the day was one of Bicester AC’s youngest competitors as Jago Newton finished first boy and 2nd in the mixed under 9 race run over 1200 metres. Amber Busby was 4th girl and 17th in the mixed race with Bicester’s other competitors Tom Court (27th), Zachary Evans (28th) and Emelia Stocker (44th).
Bicester had one of their biggest ever turnouts in the boy’s under 15/17 event run over 4.8km. There was an extraordinary improvement shown by Bicester’s first placer Samuel Worfolk who recorded his first top ten finish in the under 15/17 age group. Worfolk failed to complete in round 1 but in a massive transformation of form, Worfolk placed 9th clocking 17mins 59secs. Although playing second fiddle to Worfolk on this occasion, Louis Bushby still produced a creditable run for 13th place (18mins 38secs) leaving him in 15th place in the under 15 boy standings after two events. The Bicester AC A team, who finished 4th on the day, was completed by Oliver Conway who was 16th in his first run of the season (18mins 44secs). Michael Alborzpour produced an improved effort on round 1 by turning round form with clubmate Michael Cadle as he placed 26th (20mins 8secs) with Cadle 27th (20mins 16secs). Other Bicester finishers included Jamie Conway 29th (20mins 22secs), Romi Edwards 37th (21mins 53secs), Jacob Neal 40th (22mins 21secs), Samuel Rayson 41st (22mins 23secs), Ben Groves 44th (22mins 56secs) and Zacharia Singer 46th (23mins 54secs).

Stocker finished 7th in the under 13 boy’s race run over 2.5km clocking 9mins 17secs Timothy Jones also placed in the top half (19th in 9mins 32secs) and the team was completed by Robert Charlton (33rd in 10mins 58secs).
With Anna Joliffe competing the previous day, the under 13 girls team were not quite able to match their round 1 performance but the team still manged to hold on to 2nd place in the standings. Lucy McGrath produced a fine run for 8th place over the 2.5km course clocking 10mins 22secs. The consistent Jenny Critchley ran another solid race for 15th (10mins 39secs) with Bella Couzens stepping in to the team on this occasion for 25th (11mins 34secs).
There was a good Bicester turnout in the under 11 girl’s race run over 1.5km. And the team was headed home by seasonal debutant Zofia Conway who finished 19th in 6mins 10secs. Abigail Jones was Bicester’s next finisher in 27th (6mins 21secs) with Bethany Wetton 34th (6mins 34secs). Other Bicester finishers were Maya Evans 39th (6mins 41secs), Isabel Smith 46th (6mins 55secs) and Eloise Lemonier Press 47th (7mins 10secs).
