Bicester AC were in action again on Sunday in the penultimate round of the Oxfordshire Cross Country League held at Cotswold Farm Park.
Darragh Cassidy continued his rich vein of form with anther fine run in the under 13 boys race held over 3,140 metres. He led the Bicester contingent home for 5th place clocking 12mins 24secs helping the scoring team of 3 into 3rd place. Erlgean Appiahkorang-Mensah ran well for 13th (13mins 17secs) ahead of Bicester debutant Leo Blyton who finished 19th (14mins 12secs). Bicester’s other competitor, Thomas Perry was 25th (15mins 04secs).
Anna Jolliffe achieved the highest Bicester placing of the day finishing 4th in the under 17 lady’s race clocking 25mins 21secs for the 5,870m circuit. There was disappointment for Bicester in the under 17 men’s race run over the same distance. Bicester’s leading contender Owen Stocker had felt poorly during the week and was forced to pull out. Isacc Moran led the Bicester finishers home in 13th (23mins 19secs) just 11 seconds in advance of his twin brother who was 15th (23mins 30secs). Stocker remains in close contention for a high overall series position with one race to go.
Ben Groves continues to impress during this cross country season and he achieved an impressive top half finish in the senior men’s race placing 109th clocking 37mins 29secs for the 8,250m distance. Paul Jones was next Bicester finisher in 166th (41mins 54secs) with Arran Critchley completing the Bicester finishers in 189th (43mins 48secs).
Bicester had a team of three scorers in the under 13 girl’s race (3,140m). Ella Myers-Finnegan has consistently been Bicester ‘s finisher throughout the season and competed well despite being handicapped by a sore foot. She performed well for 12th (14mins 51sec). Emilie Stocker has competed in every cross country league event this season and she placed 28th (18mins 50secs). Team placings were completed by Alyssa Shangkuan, in her only her second cross county outing, who was 29th (19mins 20secs).
Bicester had two runners in the senior lady’s event (8,250m) with Leanne Stocker Bicester’ top finisher in 71st place (45mins 08secs) ahead of Emily Benfield who was 108th (52mins 23secs). George Hart was Bicester’s only finisher in the under 15 boy’s race where he was 14th clocking 19mins for the 4,590m circuit. There were two Bicester runners in the under 15 girl’s event run over the same distance. Abigail Jones led the Bicester due home in 14th place (23mins 25secs) ahead of a resurgent Bethany Wetton, having her best run of the season in 19th place (24mins 14secs).
Bicester numbers were down in the younger age group. Barnaby Bosley was 16th in the mixed under 9 boy/girl race (1,165m). Cameron Waters was Bicester’s highest placer in the under 11 boy’s race (1,575m) in 20th (7mins 12secs) ahead of Felix Cassidy in 24th (7mins 25secs). And Kernot Bronwen, in her first cross country race of the season, was 20th (7mins 48secs) in the under 11 girl’s race run over the same distance as the under 11 boys.
