Bicester AC had a massive turnout of 39 runners for round 3 of the Oxfordshire Cross Country League held last Sunday at Horspath. This was held in conjunction with the Oxfordshire County Cross Country Championships. The event included a record turnout of 13 Bicester runners in the under 15/17 men’s age group including two debutants.
Samuel Worfolk is currently in a rich vein of form and was leading the under 15/17 men’s race in the early stages. Worfolk was able to build on this fine start and recorded a best ever finish of 6th clocking 17mins 17secs for the 4.8km course, just 23 seconds off the winning time. It was a strong team effort from the Bicester AC A team with Louis Bushby and newcomer Hugo Jinks enjoying an excellent scrap. Bushby left it late but produced a fine turn of foot in the final straight to overpower Jinks to finish 12th (17mins 50secs) one place and five seconds ahead of Jinks. There were just two points between the first four teams with Bicester AC finishing equal second. Other Bicester placings were Edward Jolliffe (20th in 18mins 46secs), Oliver Conway (21st in 19mins 00secs), Michael Cadle (29th in 19mins 45secs), Samuel Njunga (31st in 19mins 54secs), Zacharia Singer (32nd in 19mins 55secs), Michael Alborzpour (38th in 20mins 33secs), Jacob Neal (39th in 20mins 44secs), Romi Edwards (47th in 21mins 59secs), Ben Groves (51st in 22mins 47secs) and Samuel Rayson (54th in 23mins 33secs).
Elsie Jacobs in enjoying a fine first season of cross country and she finished a best ever 6th in the under 11 girl’s race clocking 6mins 9secs for the 1.5km distance. Next placed Bicester finisher was Zofia Conway (21st in 6mins 44secs) one place and one second ahead of Abigail Jones. Other Bicester finishers were Maya Evans 43rd (8mins 01sec), Isabel Smith 50th (8mins 39secs), Eloise Lemonier Pres 51st (8mins 45secs) and Annie Rose Willis 52nd (8mins 55secs).
Owen Stocker, who is in his first year in the under 13 boy’s age group, repeated his outstanding effort achieved in the previous race by again finishing 7th (11mins 10secs) over the 2.5k distance. Timothy Jones followed him home in 23rd (12mins 05secs) with Sami Singer 30th (12mins 58secs) and Django La Porte 37th (14mins 09secs).
Anna Jolliffe and Lucy McGrath are enjoying fine seasons in the under 13 girl’s category and in a turnaround on previous form McGrath lead the team home in 5th place clocking 11mins 43secs) for the 2.5km distance. Joliffe still ran well for 6th place (11mins 59secs) and the team placings were completed by Alanna O Neill who battled bravely for 25th (14mins 48secs). The ream finished an excellent 2nd place and remain in 2nd place in the overall standings after three races.
Jago Newton continues to enjoy a fine season in the mixed under 9 category and he is is in a strong equal 2nd place in the series standings after finishing 7th. Tom Court was next in 31st with Bicester’s first girl finisher, Amber Busby 32nd. Other Bicester finishers were Zachary Evans 32nd, Charlotte Hornsby 55th and Emelie Stocker 60th.
Bicester had four competitors in the under 11 boy’s race run over 2.5km with Thomas Auty first home for Bicester placing 32nd in 6mins 29secs. Kyle Rayson was next in finishing 42nd in 6mins 49secs with Cameron Slevin 49th (7mins 00secs) and Simon Cheeseman 52nd (7mins 12secs).
Bicester had just one finisher in the under 15/17 girl’s race with Lucy Montague making her debut and clocking 22mins 54secs for 26th. And back from university briefly Tom Gould donned Bicester colours in the senior race and placed 270th clocking 46mins 47secs for the 8,500k course.
