At the first U13/U15 UK Youth Development League held at Tilsley Park on Saturday 4th May there were many fine performances from Bicester athletes as they teamed up with Banbury Harriers.

It was another good day for Holly Griffiths – Brown who is beginning to look a real prospect in the U13 Girls 800 metres, following up her fine recent Oxford League performance with another personal best run in the U13 Girls A string 800 metres with 4th place clocking 2mins 43secs. Griffiths- Brown also broke her personal best in the long jump taking the U13 Girls B string with a leap of 3.85m.

Connor Wilce was in excellent form in the U15 Boys A string long jump and he was a fine 3rd in a very competitive long jump with another personal best leap of 5.22m. Wilce also gained valuable points in the shot putt with 3rd in the U15 Boys B string (8.09m). Versatility is the key in the these team events and Tom Couzens, who was one of Bicester’s best performers over the country last winter, had enough speed to win the U13 Boys B string 100 metres in a personal best time of 14.3secs. Couzens then switched his attention to the U13 Boys B string long jump and made it a double first winning with a personal best leap of 4.10m.

It was a good day for personal bests for Bicester athletes and none achieved more than Rhiannon Penfold who achieved a hat trick of bests. She took 4th place in the U15 Girls B string 100 metres (14.2secs), 6th in the B 200 metres (29.4secs) and rounded her day off with a personal best 12.37metre throw in the A string discus. Both Bicester runners did well in the U15 Boys 300 metres with Zac Wilce showing some aptitude for this longer event with a fine 4th in the A string (48.0 secs) and Tom Gould, who normally competes over the longer distances, running a personal best 48.8 secs for 4th in the B string. Zac also finished 7th in the B string 200 metres with a personal best 29.3 secs whilst Tom finished 5th in the A string 1500 metres in 5mins 13.8secs.

William Sims produced a good run in the U13 Boys B string 800 metres finishing 3rd in 3mins 2.0secs and with his first competitive throw in the javelin B string came 2nd with 15.00m.
