Despite setting 23 personal bests Bicester AC finished 7th in the latest round of their Youth Development League Lower Age (Midland Division North East 2A) fixture staged on Sunday 21st June at Corby.

It was however another good day for under 15 girl athlete Holly Griffiths-Brown who excelled in her three events.  Primary amongst these was her victory in the 300 metres where she set another new personal best and national grade 2 standard mark of 43.50 secs.  She matched this win with another in the long jump where she jumped 4.62m and was well supported by Lauren Garside who won the B event with a new personal best leap of 4.39m.  Griffiths-Brown also cleared 1.40 metres in the high jump for 3rd place.

Molly Acton has hit a rich vein of form and one of Bicester’s most improved athletes shattered her previous best 800 metre mark in finishing 2nd in the under 15 girl’s race with a national grade 4 effort of 2mins 29.9 secs.  Acton has advanced her 800 metre best by 10 secs over the season and she gained further valuable points for the team in the B 300 metres (2nd in 46.9secs) and 3rd in the B javelin with a new personal best throw of 8.07m.

The under 15 boy’s javelin was Bicester’s only other victory with William Sims taking the under 15 boy’s event with a 23.07m throw.  Sims also placed 3rd in the B string discus (12.60m) and 7th in the A 300 metres (48.8secs).  There was a welcome return to form for Amy Gould in the under 15 girl’s 1500 metres as she placed 4th in a competitive heat with a new personal best time of 5mins 23.5secs.  Gould’s afternoon also included two throwing events where she placed 6th in the A javelin (11.60m) and 7th in the A discus (10.89m).

Oscar Honour continues to show promise in the throwing events and he bettered his shot mark still further taking 3rd in under 15 boy’s A event with a new personal best putt of 8.74m.  Honour was also 4th in the A discus (18.71m) as well as 5th in the A long jump (4.20m).  Georgia Cordy continues to progress well in the under 13 girl events and she set a new personal best time in the 70m hurdles of 14.9secs placing 3rd in the A event.  She was also 3rd in the B 75 metres (11.7secs) as well 5th in the A long jump with a new personal best jump of 3.82m).

Sean Lock set a new personal best in the under 13 boy’s 800 metres of 2mins 53secs where he finished 5th.  There was also a new personal best for Maisie Silvester in the under 15 B 100 metres where she clocked 15.3secs as well as a season’s best of 2mins 51.1secs in the B 800 metres where she placed 4th.  Freya Smith produced an eye catching personal best in the B string under 13 800 metres (2mins 57.8secs) where she finished 4th.  She was also in personal best form in the B string long jump where she placed 4th with 3.36m.  Orlaith Lyford gained the club valuable points in the under 15 B girl’s shot putt where she finished 2nd with 6.21m as well as setting a new personal best of 30.6secs in the B 200 metres.
