Some of Bicester AC’s athletes were in the Oxfordshire team that competed in the recent South East Regional Sportshall Final for athletes in the under 13 and 15 age groups held recently at Burgess Hill and the South East Fun in Athletics Final for athletes aged under 11.  It is quite an honour to be selected to compete for your county and Bicester were well represented across the six age groups with no less than 18 athletes selected to represent their county.  This is testament to the fine sportshall season that Bicester AC is having and a representation of the hard yards that the athletes have put in during winter training.  It proved to be tough going for the Oxfordshire team up against bigger counties such as Kent and Hampshire with 4th place the highest team placing.

Individual wins were hard to come by with Oxfordshire achieving just two wins in the Sportshall Regional Final for elder athletes.  One of these came from Bicester’s Aaliyah Beadle who produced a superb series of jumps in the under 13 girl’s standing triple jump to beat 13 others with a best leap of 6.90m.  This was the best leap in this competition since 2019 and further than any under 13 girl athlete has achieved in the Oxfordshire Sportshall League.  Lily Childs was selected for two events with her best event being the speed bounce where she managed a score of 80 for 6th place with Bicester’s Liv Babister back in 9th with a score of 77.   Meriel Woodrow also competed in the standing triple jump where she was 14th with a best leap of 5.25m.  The Oxfordshire under 13 girl’s team finished 6th out of the 7 competing teams.

Oxfordshire’s under 15 boy’s team finished 4th out of the 7 competing teams.  Although there were no individual Oxfordshire wins, Bicester AC’s Erlgean Appiahkorang-Mesah teamed up with ex Bicester AC athlete Lincoln Jones to win the 8 lap paarlauf with a 1mins 36.1secs clocking.  The under 15 competition includes an all rounder competition with athletes competing in three events.  Appiahkorang-Mensah is at the junior end of the age group and did well to finish 27th including a 7th place out of the 18 competing athletes in the 4 lap event with a 49.6secs clocking and efforts in the standing triple jump (7.04m) and shot (8.36m).  Roman Haverly, prior to this event, had competed in only a few sportshall events and he did well to place 30th which included 10th places in both the standing triple jump (7.26m) and speed bounce (80) as well competing in the 2 lap race (24.4secs)

Oxfordshire’s under 15 girl’s team also finished 4th with Bicester’s Georgia Bower and Olivia Naidu Johnson 2nd and 3rd Oxfordshire scorers in the overall individual competition.  Georgia Bower finished a splendid equal 12th out of the 41 competitors in the all rounder competition.  Bower achieved two top half finishes in the 2 lap Race where she was 5th (25.1secs) and equal 8th in the standing long jump (2.21m) as well as competing in the shot (6.68m).  Naidu Johnson is towards the junior end of her age group and did well to finish 19th in the all rounder event.  This included an equal 3rd in the two lap event (24.9secs) and efforts in the speed bounce (76) and the standing long jump (2.09m).

There were just two Bicester athletes selected for Oxfordshire in the under 13 boy’s event where the team finished 5th.  Cyrus Ariana performed well in the 6 lap event to finish in the top half of finishers in 6th (1mins 25.3secs).  And Jayden Beadle finished 9th in the vertical jump with 52cms.

Under 11 athletes competed in the equivalent South East Fun in Athletics competition also at Burgess Hill.  There were 4 Bicester athletes selected to compete for Oxfordshire in the under 11 girl’s competition where the Oxfordshire team finished 7th.  Emilia Beadle was a superb equal 1st out of the 21 competing athletes with three other athletes with a time of 60seconds in the balance test and also competed in the speed bounce and vertical jump.  Ruby Majonga was selected for two events where her best effort was in the vertical jump where she was 4th out of 21 competitors with a jump of 49cms.  Olivia Neptune also competed in two events where her best placing was in the chest push in 8th (6.25m).  And Brianna Senior was Bicester’s other finisher placing equal 8th in the speed bounce with a score of 54. Charlie Simpson was a brilliant equal 2nd in the under 11 boy’s speed bounce with a score of 57 out of the 21 competitors.  He was part of the Oxfordshire team that placed 7th.  Levi Fulcher placed well in the vertical jump (42cms) where he finished equal 10th as well as competing in the soft javelin.  Oliver Jarvey’s best placing in the two events he competed in was in the speed bounce where he was equal 10th (52).  And Ralph Saunders was also selected for two events with the best placing achieved in the balance test where he was 17th with 18secs.
