A number of Bicester athletes were selected to compete for their county at last Saturday’s South of England Cross Country event held at Horspath.  Five Bicester AC athletes wore the county vest in a cross country event for the first time.  Two athletes are in their first season of cross country.

Bicester’s top position was earned by Anna Jolliffe who competed strongly in the under 17 woman’s event run over an approximate 4.5km course.  Jolliffe improved on her position of last year finishing 40th out of 96 finishers with an 18min 33secs clocking.  Jolliffe was third scorer in the Oxfordshire team that finished 8th.

There were three Bicester AC athletes who made up the Oxfordshire county under 13 team, all making their Oxfordshire representative cross country debuts and two of the three made the scoring team.  Jago Newton had the honour of leading the Oxfordshire team finishing 54th and just outside the top half of finishers.  He clocked 11mins 25secs for the approximate 3km distance and was ahead of the athlete who had finished runner up in the Oxfordshire League event the previous week.  Daragh Cassidy, at the junior end of the under 13 age group, and in only his third competitive cross country run, performed well to finish 81st in 12mins 00secs. Cassidy was third scorer in the Oxfordshire team that finished 11th.  Erlgean Appiahkorang-Mensah has already competed for Oxfordshire at track and field and sportshall and added cross country to this list finishing in 95th (12mins 26secs).

Owen Stocker competed in his first county representative for over two years.  This was a competitive event with Stocker doing well to place 83rd clocking 16mins 43secs for the approximate 4.5km distance.

Bicester had two representatives in the under 13 girl’s event, with both making their maiden bow in a county event.   Ella Myers-Finnegan is enjoying a good start to the season and she finished 85th clocking 13mins 11secs for the approximate 3km distance.  Kate O Malley is in her first competitive cross country season and she finished 106th clocking 14mins 38secs.
