There were some outstanding performances from Bicester AC athletes picked to represent Oxfordshire in the South East Regional Final competition held last Sunday at Burgess Hill.
Three Bicester athletes made up the Oxfordshire team for the under 15 boy’s competition, which achieved the highest Oxfordshire placing on the day finishing runner up to a strong Surrey team. In the all – round event Bicester’s Lincoln Jones and Kyle Rayson were a superb 3rd and 4th respectively in a 42 strong field. Jones, who is in his first year in this age category, was competitive in the three events he competed in. His best performance was in the speed bounce where he managed a total of 82 in the allotted time to place 3rd. Jones was also 4th in the standing triple jump with a best jump of 7.66m and then came up against teammate Kyle Rayson in the two lap event where both achieved the equal 3rd fastest time of 23.0secs. Rayson also achieved a consistently high level of performances across the events he contested achieving a best putt of 9.45m in the shot for 4th and a leap of 2.61m in the standing long jump which was also 4th best. Bicester’s other competitor was Robson Matthews who was Oxfordshire’s 4th highest scorer in 24th. Matthew’s efforts included the 9th best leap in the standing long jump (2.45m) and his effort of 77 speed bounces was also 9th best.
The one individual Bicester win came in the under 13 boy’s six lap event. Erlgean Appiahkorang-Mensah has been unbeatable in this discipline in the Oxfordshire League and transferred that form to the bigger stage as he beat 13 others to win the 6 lap event (1mins 22.0secs). Appiahkorang-Mensah was also a good 9th in the shot putt (7.90m). Bicester’s Henry Unger also earned a county vest and was 11th in standing triple jump with 6.12m.
Bicester had the two top scorers in the Oxfordshire team that was 5th in the under 15 girl’s competition. Naomi Ejiogu was Oxfordshire’s leading scorer finishing equal 6th in the overall competition out of 42 competitors. Ejiogu’s performances included a 4th in the shot putt (8.69m) and a 4th equal in the standing long jump (2.27m). Kristin Senior also placed high in the overall standings and her efforts included a 4th best total of 81 in the speed bounce competition. Georgia Bower, in her first year of this age group, finished a respectable 36th which included a 13th place in the shot putt (6.59m).
Bicester had three competitors representing the county in the under 13 girl’s competition. Grace Jarvey finished a superb equal 2nd in the speed bounce with a total of 79. Yasmin Sheppard competed in two events which included a 7th place in the 4 lap event (58.3secs). And Olivia Naidu-Johnson was 9th in the standing triple jump with 5.99m.
In the corresponding the under 11 Sportshall Fun in Athletics Competition, held at the same venue on the same day, Bicester’s William Cleaver was a superb winner in the soft javelin with a throw of 16 metres as well as taking 13th in the standing triple jump (5.30m). Jayden Beadle also shared first place with 5 others in the balance test as well as finishing 8th in the vertical jump (45cms). Cyrus Ariana represented the county in two events with a best placed effort of 8th in the target throw. And Charlie Simpson finished 15th in the speed bounce competition (48).
Bicesters’ Lily Childs and Imogen Unger represented Oxfordshire in the under 11 girl’s competition.. Child’s best effort was in the speed bounce where she finished a fine 6th with a total of 53. Unger’s best placing was in the soft javelin where she was 12th (9 metres).
