Ten Bicester AC athletes were selected to represent Oxfordshire at last Saturday’s South East Regional Sportshall Final competition held at Burgess Hill.  The three Bicester athletes competing for Oxfordshire in the under 13 boy’s competition were all making their regional final debuts.  Lincoln Jones competed a brilliant double first in the vertical jump and 2 lap race to qualify for the national finals.  In the vertical jump, Jones who has been unbeatable this Winter, produced a superb winning measure of 74cms which was 9cms higher than his nearest competitor.  It is also the joint second highest jump in UK records.  It was somewhat closer in the two lap event with Jones dead heating for first spot with a 28.5secs clocking.

Bicester’s other first places came in the under 15 events.  The individual events make up the overall competition which comprises three events per individual.  Kristin Senior enjoyed a very successful competition in the overall event placing 6th out of the 40 finishers in the under 15 girl’s event with 122 points, just 9 points off first place and one point away from a bronze.  Senior was Oxfordshire’s top finisher.  She finished a superb equal first place out of the 18 competitors in the speed bounce with 84 counted bounces.  Senior was also a good equal 6th in the two lap event with a time of 31.0 secs.

Bicester’s other winner was Robson Matthews who won the under 15 boy’s speed bounce with 80 bounces.  Matthews finished in overall 13th place in the 42 strong field and was also Oxfordshire’s top finisher.  Matthew’s other efforts included a 10th place in the standing long jump with a best leap of 2.38m.

Georgia Bower achieved Bicester’s placing in the under 13 girl’s event with 4th place in the standing triple jump (6.34m).  Yasmine Sheppard was selected for two events and her best placing was in the 4 lap race where she finished 8th (1mins 11.2secs).  Amber Busby, who has also been competing over the country this winter, was also selected for two events with a best placing of 9th in the 6 lap race (2mins 1.3secs).

Lincoln Jones had two Bicester AC athletes for company in the under 13 boy’s event.  Erlgean Appiahkorang – Mensah has combined cross country with sportshall athletics.  He did well to place 6th in the 6 lap race (1mins 50.7secs) and 8th in the shot with a putt of 6.87m. Kyle Mcleod was also selected for two events and his best effort was in the 2 lap race where he finished 8th (30.3secs).
