There was a strong representation for Bicester AC athletes in last week’s South of England Inter Counties Cross Country Championships held last Saturday at Horspath. Nine of the club’s athletes were selected to run for Oxfordshire. Fortunately the races were staged on Saturday before heavy snow hit Oxfordshire.
Ben West is a class act and he led the Oxfordshire team home finishing a highly commendable 7th in the 99 strong under 17 men’s race. West ran right up to his best to clock 15mins 13secs for the 5k course, which was one of Bicester’s best ever placings in this event.
Runners from all over the South of England compete in this event and high quality races seems to bring best out of Amelia Cox. Having already notched a fine effort in a cross challenge event earlier this season, Cox produced another top drawer run to finish 38th in the under 15 girl’s race. She was not far off Oxfordshire’s leading runner and her time for the 4k course was 15mins 43secs in the 119 strong field.
Max Nicolle is again enjoying a fine season and he was supported by two of his Bicester teammates in the under 15 boy’s race, which was run over a 4k circuit. Nicolle finished 43rd in 14mins 03secs. Edward Joliffe gained valuable experience down in 91st place (15mins 00sec) and he again just enjoyed the better of Samuel Worfolk (94th in 15mins 05secs) in their season long rivalry.
Oliver Conway is enjoying a fine first cross country season for the club, and representing Oxfordshire, he was a highly promising 59th in the under 13 boy’s race, contested over a 3k circuit (11mins 20secs). Timothy Jones also earned a county vest in the same event where he was 108th (12mins 26secs).
Bicester also had two runners in the under 13 girl’s race where Imogen Cox in 102nd (13mins 02secs) just got the better of a battle with teammate Anna Joliffe who was 105th in the same time.
