Bicester AC held their annual summer track and field awards presentation last Friday at the Highfield Club Bicester. It was a successful summer for many of the club athletes with 25 seasonal bests achieving national grade markings and 8 club records equalled or bettered. The under 11 boy’s team of Jack Green, Joel Hodges and George Mansell were presented with the Heart of England division 3 winner’s trophy for their age group.
Samuel Rayson was responsible for four of the club’s national grade performances which included the club’s only national grade 1 performance in the high jump for 25th place in the national rankings. He was only one of two Bicester athletes to be picked for Oxfordshire in the Southern inter counties championships. Rayson was also selected to compete in the English Schools Championships in the high jump as well as the recently held English Schools combined championships. For his fine all-round performances Rayson was awarded both the under 15 boy’s track athlete and field athlete of the year awards.
Bicester’s under 11s enjoyed a fine season. The much-travelled Jack Green made good advances in all of the quad disciplines heading the Bicester under 11 boy rankings in three of the four quad disciplines. He excelled in the 600 metres (1mins 53.3secs) and howler (42.1 metres). Green was awarded the under 11 boy track athlete of the year trophy.
Elsie Jacobs headed the Bicester under 11 girl rankings in three of the four quad competition and her outstanding 600 metres run at Corby (1mins 53.2secs), which placed her 22nd in the national rankings, earned her the under 11 girl track performer of the year trophy.
Katie Groves has made superb advancement in both the discus and shot achieving national grades performances in both events. She established a new club record for the under 13 girl’s discus in August (20.10m), which was a national grade 3 performance, for which she was awarded the under 13 girl’s field athlete of the year award.
Joel Hodges and George Mansell, who were part of the winning Heart of England under 11 boy’s team were rewarded for their individual efforts. Joel Hodges ran the fastest 75m by a Bicester athlete (11.30secs) but it was his effort in the long jump (3.66m) which earned him the under 11 boy’s field athlete of the year award. And George Mansell, who provided sterling support to Hodges and Jack Green over a range of disciplines, was awarded the under 11 boy’s club athlete of the year award.
Further under 11 award winners included Charlotte Hornby who took the under 11 girl’s field athlete of the year award. For the under 9s, Mia Considine has performed well throughout the summer and she was awarded the under 9 girl club athlete award with Zachery Evans taking the boy’s equivalent.
The under 15 girls enjoyed a fine season and the track and field best athlete awards were keenly contested. Jenny Critchley took the track athlete of the year award for her national grade 4 effort in the 300m (45.6secs) and for her improvement over the season in the 800 metres. Freya McGinlay achieved a national grade 4 throw effort in the hammer (26.04m) earning her the under 15 girl’s field athlete of the year award. Kyle Rayson was in his first season in the under 13 boy’s age group and did well to make to achieve two national graded efforts in the 75m hurdles (15.0secs) and high jump (1.30m) and along with his good times in the sprints was awarded the under 13 boy’s track athlete of the year. Django La Porte’s massive national grade 3 long jump mark of 4.40m earned him the under 13 field athlete of the year award. And Kristen Senior, also in her first year, in the under 13 girl’s age group, achieved national grade 4 times in the 100 (14.6secs) and 200m (30.7secs) earning her the under 13 girl’s track performer of the year award.
