In this difficult year for sport Bicester AC’s athletes have had to increasingly take their opportunities when they have presented themselves. Two Bicester athletes made the trip to Swindon last Friday to compete on the track over 3,000 metres under the floodlights. Both athletes were making their debuts at the 3,000-metre distance.
First up was Jenny Critchley, who competed against 8 others in heat 3. Critchley set out boldly and held her form superbly throughout to clock 10mins 45.69secs, just 3 seconds behind the winner. In spite of what has been a much-truncated season, Critchley has managed personal bests in every race she has competed in. Critchley has made great strides over the longer distances throughout 2020 and this performance smashed the previous Bicester 3,000 metre club record for an under 17 lady. It was also a national grade 4 performance, a superb effort from Critchley who is very much at the junior end of this age group.
Finlay Colverson-Martin is in his first year of competition as a Bicester runner and had never competed on the track as a Bicester athlete. He was in heat 6 and produced a superb debut run to duck under the 10-minute barrier, finishing 7th in a time of 9mins 49.75secs. This was a run of rich promise for Colverson-Martin, who like Critchley is at the junior end of the under 17 age group.
