Eight Bicester AC athletes, selected to compete for Oxfordshire, made the trip to Loughborough for last Saturday’s UK Inter County Cross Country Championships.
Bicester’s highest placed finisher was Hugo Jinks, who despite being at the junior end of his age group, achieved one of the best inter county cross country placings by a Bicester athlete, placing 57th out of the 265 finishers in the under 17 men’s race run over 6km. Jinks was the second scorer in the Oxfordshire team that finished 12th out of the 39 competing teams and defeated the runner who finished ahead of him in this year’s Oxfordshire Cross Country League. Two further Bicester runners represented Oxfordshire in the under 17 men’s race with Edward Jolliffe 176th in 24mins 48secs and Jamie Conway 221st in 25mins 53secs.
There were also three Bicester runners in the under 15 girl’s Oxfordshire team all of whom are towards the junior end of their age group. Anna Jolliffe continued her fine winter’s form with another superb performance as she finished 107th out of the 295 competing athletes clocking 19mins 09secs for the 4.3km course. Jolliffe was Oxfordshire’s third counter as the team finished 20th out of the 40 competing teams. Jenny Critchley continues to perform well, and she finished a creditable 210th clocking 20mins 39secs with Lucie McGrath 245th (21mins 15secs). Bicester’s other Oxfordshire team counter on the day was Oliver Conway, who gained revenge on two of the Oxfordshire runners that had finished in front of him in Oxfordshire League races. Conway was the 3rd Oxfordshire runner as he placed 121st out of the 280 finishers clocking 16mins 24secs for the 4.3km course with the team finishing 10th out of the 40 competing teams. Bicester’s other Oxfordshire country representative was Owen stocker who finished 265th in the under 13 boy’s race clocking 16mins 24secs for the 3.4km distance.
