At Bicester we are very short of qualified officials, especially track officials. Part of being in the track and field leagues we enter is an obligation to supply officials, if we do not have enough officials we will not be able to enter these leagues.
May be you’ve watched your child compete, watched athletics on telly or seen us officiating and thought why are they doing that or what’s that for? Now is your chance to find out.
In November there are several level 1 officials’ courses at Horspath track, Oxford. The level 1 is official’s accreditation is relatively easy to obtain. The first thing is to attend a level training course and complete the online health and safety course (the cost of the course will be covered by Bicester AC), then carry out officiating duties in your chosen area at four or more competitions. A DBS check also needs to be carried out. Once all of these are complete you can apply for your level one accreditation.
The courses available are:
- Level 1 Timekeeper 08/11/2019 18:00 – 20:30
- Level 1 Track judge 08/11/2019 18:00 – 20:30
- Level 1 Starter / Starters Assistant 08/11/2019 18:00 – 21:00
- Level 1 Field Judge 09/11/2019 10:00 – 15:00
By becoming an official you will not only be helping Bicester AC, you will also have a better understanding of the events your child is taking part in. The more officials we have the lighter the load is for all. If your child is at a competition all day competing then what better way to fill your time than helping out officiating.
If becoming an official is something you could do, especially if your child is an under 13 or will be moving up to under 13 next summer then please speak to one of the team managers or coaches.
Thank you for your support.
