Bicester AC contested their first summer track and field fixture for nearly two years as they sent a team to Milton Keynes for the UK Development League Lower Midlands North East Division fixture.  Several of the Bicester contingent had not competed in any athletic fixture for nearly two years and others were making their track and field debuts so the team performed well to eventually finish 4th.

There was a trio of personal bests for Katie Groves in her first competitive outing as an under 15.  Groves was the only Bicester athlete to achieve a national grade performance on the day with 3rd place in the A shot (7.98m).  Although Groves has thrown the discuss further, this was for a different weight so her 2nd place effort (18.98m) was a personal best for this weight of discus.  Groves also recorded a new personal best in the high jump with 3rd place in the A event clearing 1.30m.

Kyle Rayson produced the best overall time of any competitor in the under 15 boy’s 80m hurdles with first place in the B event and a person best of 14.36 secs which was a faster clocking than the winner of the A event.  Rayson was also well inside his previous mark in the 100 metres where he finished 4th in the A event clocking 13.26secs.

Bicester’s best time in the under 15 100 metres was produced by debutant Noah Gulvin who clocked a swift 13.09 secs in the non – scoring event.  Gulvin was Bicester’s A scorer in his two other events finishing 3rd in a tightly contested 800m (2mins 25.0secs) and replicating that placing in the 300m (43.61secs).

Jasmine Hendon smashed her previous best in the under 15 girl’s 100 metres placing 5th in 14.55secs which was over a second inside her old mark.  Robson Matthews produced an impressive putt in his first ever attempt at the shot putt with 4th place and 10.07m in the under 15 boy’s event.  But this will not count for record purposes as the wrong weight of shot was supplied by the organisers.  Matthews also competed in the 80m hurdles where he was 2nd in the A (16.33secs) and 2nd in the B 300 metres (46.58secs).

Kyle Mcleod performed well in his first ever club athletics event.  Mcleod was the fastest Bicester runner in the under 13 boy’s 75m with runner up spot in the B string (11.11secs) with teammate William Morris, a track and field debutant, taking 4th in the A event (11.88secs).  Mcleod was also 4th in the A string 1200 metres (4mins 34.1secs).

Tabitha Bosley put in a promising performance in her first ever club athletic’s event with a creditable 4th place in the under 13 girl’s 1200 metres (4mins 45.1secs).   Thomas Pilbeam was also competing in his first ever club track and field fixture and did well to finish 4th in the javelin with a best throw of 14.08m with William Morris  5th in the B string (7.94m).

There were new personal bests for Eloise Le Monnier Press and Charlotte Hornby.  Le Monnier-Pres was 5th in the under 13 girl’s A Long Jump.  Her leap of 3.28m was a significant advancement on her previous best.  Le Monnier Press also bettered her previous 75m time clocking 12.42 secs in a non – scoring heat, nearly 0,8secs inside her previous best.  Charlotte Hornby clocked 12.7secs for 5th in the B string under 13 girl’s 75m which was 0.6secs faster than her previous best.  Teammate Isabelle Hinde Smith, competing in her first ever club athletic competition, was 5th in the A 75m (12.7secs).

Ethan Lock was inside his previous best in the under 15 boy’s 800m with 4th in the B event (2mins 48.9secs).  Another athlete in personal best form was Helena Norton who was 4th in the B discus (6.87m), which was further than her previous best mark with a lighter discus.

Bethany Wetton was close to her previous best in the A string under 15 girl’s 800m where she was 5th in 3mins 11.1secs.  Django La Porte produced a creditable effort in his first ever attempt at the discus finishing 5th in the under 15 boy’s A event (12.66m) with teammate Ethan Lock 4th in the B event (10.68m).

Other Bicester athletes who were making their track and field debuts included Freya Derry, who performed creditably in the under 15 girl’shot (5.25m) for 3rd in the B string as well as contesting the 800 metres (3mins 29.1secs).  Abigail Jones was also making her club track and field debut and her efforts included a 4th in the B under 13 girl’s 1200 metres (4mins 53.3secs)

There were also other Bicester AC athletes competing in their first ever club athletics event.  Reuben Baker was 4th in then under 13 boy’s A Long Jump (3.39m) as well as  4th in the B 1200 metres (6mins 51.9secs).  Maia Pilbeam finished 4th in the A under 15 girl’s 300 metres (51.13secs) whilst Daria Hudson was 4th in the under 13 girl’s A javelin (6.87m).
